Joe Royle to Quit

You have to feel a bit sorry for THE REAL LATICS at the moment. A couple of months ago they were riding high in League One, then there was the fracas on a night out, then John Sheridan was sacked and now interim manager and Oldham Athletic legend Joe Royle has announced he WILL be leaving at the end of the season and the REAL LATICS will still be in League One next season.

I will still be here A REAL LATIC FROM THE SOUTH.

Paul Scholes 600 Up

Last night (Wednesday), Paul Scholes made his 600th appearance for ManUre in their victory against Portsmouth which puts them clear of Liverpool again in the race for the Premiership title.

If you didn't know, Paul Scholes is Oldham born and bred and he is a serious REAL LATIC fan. When he can, he gets to Boundary Park to watch THE REAL LATICS play and I have been told on and off that when Paul finally decides to hang his boots up at Old Trafford, he wants to play for his hometown club for a season or two.

If ManUre win the title for the third successive season, could Mr Scholes be playing in the Blue of THE REAL LATICS next season?

Sheridan Sacked

After their 6-2 drubbing at MK Dons on Saturday, THE REAL LATICS parted company with manager John Sheridan.

Sheridan had been under pressure recently for the team's lack of results, which puts their chances of reaching the play-offs at just better than slim.

Sheridan's departure might have something to do with an altercation between senior players and the manager himself at a 'fans' night out early last week.

REAL LATICS legend Joe Royle takes charge Guus Hiddink style on a temporary contract.

More OUCH!!!

The Real Latics manager John Sheridan wasn't a happy man after his team's battering at Hereford United on Saturday.

The Real Latics lost 5-0 and Sheridan was so angry he demanded his battered troops in for training on Sunday morning.

No night out then I take it?

Rules to be Broken

One of the golden rules of writing a blog - whatever you write - is to post an entry everyday, at least.

Me, I have been naughty. This is my first entry since Christmas Eve.

Well I think I can be excused. There has been too much happening over the last six days - Food, drink, merriment, sale shopping and getting ready to go on holiday at the weekend.

Yep I am off to sunnier climes on Saturday, though only for a week. I will be back in time for the Man Utd v Chelsea game on Sunday 11th January.

Great holiday planning don't you think?

What has been happening recently?

The REAL Latics won at Crewe 3-0 and drew at home to Carlisle over Christmas, Chelsea won and drew and 'ickle' Stevie Gerrard GOT NICKED and CHARGED for affray and assault.

Oh Happy Days!!

On Tuesday night they travelled to play Bristol Rovers and lost 2-0 and today they were back in the West Country, well Wiltshire more like, and got beat by Swindon Town, again by the same score, 2-0.

Two defeats in a short space of time have seen The REAL LATICS drop from 2nd in League One to seventh.

Already..... The Comeback of the Season!!!

And the Football League has only just kicked off!!!

As you know this blog is dedicated to the REAL LATICS - Oldham Athletic.

Yesterday at Boundary Park, Oldham played host to Millwall in their first League One game of the 2008/09 season in front of a crowd of 5,367.

Millwall took the lead inside 15 seconds, Oldham equalised through Andy Liddell on 3 minutes - Millwall went 3-1 up and then the comeback started.

Liddell got his 2nd from the penalty spot, (Millwall had Robinson sent off) Alessandra made it 3-3 and Oldham born and bred and Oldham fan Chris Taylor scored the winner with five minutes to go.

Here are all the goals:
