WC 2010 Qualifiers Over... For at least a Month.

Well the first rounds of games of qualifying for South Africa in 2010 are over (Thank God for that) and normal regular football returns for at least four weeks.

Incidentally I have been approached by a sports website to write reviews for their products and if their offer is as good as it says it is, I get to keep the goods that they send me.

The REAL Latics Latest

The REAL Latics travelled to Merseyside on Saturday to play Tranmere Rovers to pit their wits against former boss Ronnie Moore, and came away with a 1-0 win.

Shining Stars

I really don't know how the 7,000 plus England fans do it. Travel away to see England play no-hopers Andorra in a World Cup qualifier in Barcelona - perhaps the attraction of a weekend in Barcelona did it.

Its bad enough supporting your club every weekend without expending more energy and emotion on a two-bit, two-bob international team who really haven't done anything since Sir Bobby Robson was in charge.

It took England 46 plus mins to break down a stubborn Andorrian side last night and to me a result, anything less than 5-0 is considered a failure, but England have been a failure for many a year.

Two goals in the space of ten minutes from half-time substitute Joe Cole, who still got told off by England manager Fabio Capello, was one shining star of two.

The second shining star was Theo Walcott of Arsenal. Walcott started his first England game and terrorised the Andorrian defence especially in the first-half.

As for the rest.... pah. The biggest culprits were Stewart Downing of Middlesbrough (what on earth is he doing in an England shirt) and Wayne (The Prodigal Son) Rooney!!!

At least Frank Lampard wasn't booed!!

England have to do alot better if they are to overcome Croatia in Zagreb on Wednesday night.

Here Comes The Money!!

First we had Russian money entering the Premiership, then it was the turn of the Yanks followed by Dr Thai and now the Arabs have left the dressing room and entered the playing field.

In a wonderful turbulent day on Monday, the last day of the transfer window and as one Man City fan put it, " We woke up skint and now we are rich," City were taken over by a consortium of Arabs with mega loads of cash to shed.

Shed the cash they did - guzumping Chelsea for the signature of Real Madrid's Robinho for over £32m - a new British transfer record.

Didier Drogba Returns

Didier Drogba made his long awaited return for Chelsea on Monday night. He played 60 minutes in Chelsea Reserves victory away against Arsenal.

Drogba didn't score but he made Chelsea's equaliser and then Chelsea went on to lead 3-1, before Arsenal scored a late consolation goal to make the final score 3-2 to Chelsea.

Drogba looks set to make his return to Chelsea's first team in the Premiership game at Man City on Saturday 13th September.
